Is There Really a Free ISP?

Everyone who accesses the Internet has an Internet Service Provider or ISP, but most do not know what that means exactly. An ISP is a company with an Internet account that provides individuals and groups access to, or presence on, the Internet. That basically means they are what you go through to get on the Internet. There are many choices out there for an ISP offering countless different additional features for a monthly fee. But what about a free ISP? Does such a thing exist?

The UK free ISP market is vast. There are many different free ISP companies, all offering separate features. Some of the most common features are e-mail, spam filters, anti-virus protection, and webmail and hosting. These features are generally free of charge as well. But how can they do that?

The access and services are free, but the free ISP is not entirely without charge. Access to the Internet is granted through a 0845 Internet dial-up number. This means that you dial-up using a local 0845 telephone number, and are charged nothing else but the time that you spend on there. The only charges are on your normal phone bill. If you don't use the free ISP, you don't pay anything, also known as "pay as you go" Internet. This kind of Internet connection is ideal for the casual user, or a person who accesses from many different locations.

How can the free ISP make any money doing that? When you dial-up using the 0845 number, normal local telephone charges are incurred. The free ISP gets a margin of that cost from the telephone company. They also make money from advertising that you click on while online.

There are many choices for ISPs out there with various features for various prices. A free ISP may be a great choice for you if you use occasionally or if you have many different places you enjoy surfing the Internet.
